Need help managing debt?
If you’re having trouble managing debt, you’re not alone. The tough economy has left many Americans with more debt than they can handle, and few resources for managing it. Managing debt and learning how to be debt free are skills that not many consumers have had a chance to master, which is why so many people turn to American Consumer Credit Counseling (ACCC) for help.
ACCC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping consumers find a path out of debt and regain control of their financial future. Through free credit counseling and low-cost debt management and credit card debt elimination programs, we help consumers understand what managing debt is all about and how important it is to live a debt free life. Since 1991, we have provided financial education and strategies for managing debt to thousands of people across the country.
Resources for managing debt.
Financial education is one of the most effective tools for effectively managing debt. Our website offers a wide range of financial education resources for consumers, on topics that include personal money management, home ownership, preventing identity theft, managing debt, and much more.
Additionally, our highly trained and certified counselors strive to educate every client on best practices for managing money, budgets, and debt. They are extremely knowledgeable about the many options for reducing debt and managing credit, and can provide details on the pros and cons of a debt management plan, a debt settlement program, bankruptcy, and other ways of dealing with debt.
Managing debt through proven strategies.
For many of our clients, a debt management plan has proven to be the most effective way of managing debt and paying off credit cards. Our debt management plan is a three-pronged approach to managing debt.
- Budgeting. When starting a debt management plan, we work with you to create a budget you can live with while you work on managing and paying down your debt.
- Consolidation of payments. Rather than making multiple payments to individual creditors each month, we consolidate payments so you make just one payment to our debt management center and we pay each creditor on your behalf. This reduces the stress of managing debt, and enables you to more easily keep current with your debt payments.
- Debt forgiveness or reductions. We contact your creditors to seek possible reductions in your principal balance, and in things like finance charges, over-limit fees, interest rates, and late payment fees. This strategy helps to lower your total debt so you can pay it off faster.
