3 St. Patrick’s Day Spending Tips

Irish or not, everyone loves to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. It’s the perfect day to let loose, hang out with friends, and maybe even attend a parade in your local city. While St. Patty’s Day is certainly reason enough to celebrate, try not to get too carried away with spending, especially if you’re working on debt management. Here are some St. Patrick’s Day spending tips to help guide you towards a fun, safe, and frugal day of fun.

These St. Patrick's Day spending tips prevent overspending.

St. Patrick’s Day Spending Tips

Wear green and be merry, it’s St. Patrick’s Day! Follow these St. Patrick’s Day spending tips for some guilt-free St. Patty’s Day fun:

Green doesn’t grow on trees.

You know what I mean. It’s a tradition to wear some form of green clothing on St. Patrick’s Day. And while nobody wants to deny you the right to celebrate, chances are you already have at least one item of green clothing in your wardrobe. Save a few extra bucks and shop your closet instead of buying an outfit that you can only really wear once a year. Opt for a green shirt, hat, dress, or even a green tie! It shows your spirit for the holiday while also being appropriate the other 364 days a year. Savvy shopping decisions can help reduce needing help for credit card debt.

Make your own St. Patty’s Day feast.

St. Patrick’s Day is special to many, largely in part to the delicious food. If you’re headed out for a night on the town or are heading to a parade, eat before you go! Yes, it can be tempting to eat (and drink) green everything all day long. But, it’s not exactly great for your budget, or your health. Make a hearty Irish dinner like fish & chips or corned beef and cabbage before hitting the town. Eating at home is less expensive, and will save you from unnecessary spending. Plus, a home cooked meal is probably better tasting than any street or pub food. Identifying where you can save money in your daily life, and particularly on special occasions, is key to debt relief.

Go Green.

Going green, both environmentally and financially, can really help you stay on track this St. Patrick’s Day. To avoid overspending or racking up credit card debt, go cash-only, and leave your card at home. Trust me, having limited funds will save you from making any spur of the moment decision that you could regret in the morning. And, there’s no worry of losing your credit card at a crowded event. If it’s allowed, also consider bringing a reusable bottle. It saves on plastic, and you’ll always know which cup is yours.

Enjoy your St. Patrick’s Day!
