Student Discounts 101

We all know college isn’t cheap. From the cost of annual tuition and books to small expenses like dorm decor or a night out with friends, it can add up quickly. You could even end up in debt if you’re not careful.

Our credit counseling advice is to look for discounts

Our credit counseling advice is to look for discounts.

As a college freshman, your student ID is one of the most important (and lucrative) things to have on you at all times. Not only will you need it to enter your dorm, the dining hall, and the library, but it can also earn you student discounts at hundreds of retailers nationwide. Always carry your ID in order to save money on everything from clothing and entertainment to food, electronics, and transportation and to help you avoid going into credit card debt just to fund your daily life at college.

For a full list of retailers and their student discount policies, download ACCC’s Financial Workbook for Pre-College and Current College Students. You’ll find discounts at popular retailers such as Apple, J. Crew, Amazon, and many more!

If you don’t see a retailer listed and are not sure if they offer a student discount, just ask. Chances are they will offer a discount, especially if the retailer is located close to a college campus.

When shopping online, many retailers will let you use your “.edu” e-mail address as proof of your student status.

Student discounts aren’t just for undergrads; graduate students can also take advantage of this perk.

Please note that not all retailer locations participate in discounts and discounts may vary.

If you’re struggling to pay off debt, ACCC can help. Schedule a free credit counseling session with us today.
