It may be a little late to begin searching for a summer job for this year, but there is still a chance that a young, ambitious person can find a way to earn some extra cash this summer. How to Find a Summer Job
Here are some tips for kids…
- Ask everywhere. Wherever you shop or spend free time, ask if they are hiring. Grocery stores, pizza joints, restaurants, retail stores, anywhere. If not, maybe there is some sort of extra work they need that you can provide, like some landscaping or cleaning.
- Network with parents. Maybe your parents or friends’ parents have a connection with a local business. Start with the people you know.
- Be an entrepreneur. If you can’t find a job, make up your own. Post flyers in your neighborhood advertising your services. Maybe you can do some yard work, painting, babysitting, dog-walking, house cleaning, car washing, or something else. You can also advertise on community Facebook pages and Craigslist.
- Think outside the box. Most young people will look for the types of jobs we’ve already mentioned. Try to come up with something else. Maybe something that is more related to your career interests. Seek out businesses and offices of that nature and inquire about lower level jobs or internships.
Whether they’re earning some extra money or gaining valuable experience, summer is a great time for kids to get out there and learn what it takes to manage their personal finances.
